"Nothing will be quite as I want it, but sometimes we eat the toast that is burned on one side anyway, don't we?"

The more I read of Elizabeth Edwards tonight the more I want to know. I mean, I've had the basics down...smart as hell, shrewd business woman, let go of the husband that FINALLY admitted his lies. Smart cookie. Graceful. Carried herself thru- life in a way that is admirable. I've been reading excerpts from her books tonite & see a trip to Bookters (B's word) is imminent. There's a lot to learn from this woman. She had a deep understanding (it seems) of people and life. One of my favorite quotes so far & I really think it applies to so many of us in multiple ways:

“Did I waste my time in these years? Have I thrown this part of my life away, in a sense? And I decided that I didn't, that maybe I didn’t get the same things out of it I expected to, or that I thought I was at the time. But when I look back, there's really lots of blessings that I've had. I've had the opportunity to have these great children. I've had wonderful friends. I've had experiences that really couldn't be replaced, and opportunities to talk about things that mattered to me.”

Those great children must be crushed. I know what age ten is like & it is WAY too young to lose your mother.

Icon.

I know in recent years he was considered freakish, possibly a pedophile, an addict, many things. Before all of those possibilities were plastered all over news outlets, newspapers & tabloids Michael Jackson was considered musical genius. Anyone that grew up in the 80's directly links him to their childhood. He provided years worth of the soundtrack. Michael gave us tacky red jackets with a hundred ill placed zippers, one sparklie glove, sequin covered fedora's, videos that actually told stories & made you want to mimic the background dancers.

I remember coming into 7th grade the morning after the American Music Awards had aired. 1983. We sat in math class and spent the first 15 minutes marveling at his live persormance. Even Mrs. Sheridan was going on & on about him. It was the part of the show everyone wanted to see & it was the rare occassion where it actually lived up to the hype. I can't find that exact performance on You Tube but here is one of Billie Jean that is pretty close & also came in 1983.

What do I think of when I hear Michael Jackson?

Moonwalk.
